Value Added Service (VAS):

A Value Added Service (VAS) is a popular telecommunications industry term for
non-core services, or, in short, all services beyond standard voice calls, SMS and
data services which use and add value to the core telecommunication services.

Earlier VAS only meant to MMS, SMS and services such as call waiting and call
forwarding.

Now that the market is flooded with improved handsets, revolutionary data
services like- 3G, 4G. Currently VAS services are mostly like ringtones, caller ring
back tones, Missed Call Alert, Emergency Balance, Balance Transfer, tracking
services, application such as gaming, audio streaming, stock quotes, participation
in polls and contests, m-commerce, banking services, instant messaging,
infotainment, entertainment services, content downloads etc. The developing world
has seen an enormous increase in a number of smart phones used during the last
few years. This growth is expected to continue as we head towards 2020 and
beyond. Telecom industry has become saturated which means the revenue from
voice call has decreased quite a bit. Thus, the telecoms need to find an innovative
way to differentiate them and become attractive to new, potential consumers. VAS
provides a means to do that. Nowadays, it is agreed upon that those operators who
provide new value-added services will be able to balance out the declining incomes
from the voice stream. Realizing the significance of value added services,
operators are more than willing to invest in the trending value added services.
These services often include partnering with a third-party vendor to provide pre-
sales or post-sales services such as subscriptions and on-demand services. As more
users obtain cell phones, then the diversity in the type of VAS that telecoms will
offer should increase in the coming years.

Teletalk continues to be a part of the revolution that’s connecting millions of
Bangladeshi people and around the world. Teletalk first come up with a solution to
unveil the information (i.e Online and SMS based public exam result; admission;
recruitment; utility bill payment etc) for mass people by digitalizing data and

four existing telecommunication companies, in bringing telecommunication and
digital services to the people of Chittagong Hill tract Areas (in 2008) and places as
remote as the Sundarbans (2015). Teletalk also introduced 3G Service for the first
time in Bangladesh on 14th October 2012. Teletalk is providing all types of Mobile
based VAS services along with some exclusive VAS services in Bangladesh.

Teletalk was established keeping a specific role in mind. Teletalk has forged ahead
